Pioneers Fall 7-1 to Salve Regina

BRIDGEPORT, Conn - The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team closed out a winless weekend with a 7-1 loss to the Salve Regina Seahawks Sunday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice. SHU falls to 3-7-3 on the season, while Salve Regina improves to 6-3-2.

Salve Regina had six different goal-scorers, with two goals coming from Danielle Phalon. The Seahawks scored their first three goals on power plays, finishing 3-5 on the man-advantage.

The Pioneers lone goal game at 14:27 of the second period. Senior Sara Hanna (Lino Lakes, MN) and junior Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, MA) put together a nice 2 on 1 break, with Hanna finding the back of the net to put SHU within two goals at the time.It is Hanna's second goal of the season.

The Pioneers are off until January 3rd when they travel to take on St. Michael's.
