Women’s Hockey Returns To Winning Ways, Beats Stevenson 3-1
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's hockey team snapped its current losing streak Saturday with a 3-1 win over Stevenson at the Wonderland of Ice.
Sacred Heart came away with a 1-0 lead with 2:19 left in the first period. Emily Falvey (Hingham, Mass.) and Catie Ladner (Chaska, Minn.) assisted on Erin Marley's (Belchertown, Mass.) tally to give the Pioneers' a 1-0 lead. In a back-and-forth first period, Sacred Heart outshot the Mustangs 13-11. Cara Curran put the Pioneers ahead 2-0 4:41 into the second period with a power play goal assisted by Jennie Robinson (Hyde Park, N.Y.). The Pioneers were 1-for-2 on the power play in the second period, adding their third goal with 2:10 left in the second. Amie Varano (Duxbury, Mass.) scored unassisted to make the score 3-0. Stevenson (2-1) scored its lone goal at 10:40 of the third period on a power play strike by McKenzie Taggart.
Nicole Magee (Burlington, Mass.) made 32 saves for Sacred Heart to earn the win in goal. Sarah Modzelewski had 29 saves for Stevenson. The Mustangs outshot Sacred Heart 33-32 and were 1-for-3 on the power play. The Pioneers were 1-for-5 on the power play.
Sacred Heart will take to the road on Friday, Nov. 15 to take on Stevenson at 2:30 p.m.
