Women’s Hockey Falls 4-1 To Plymouth State

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's hockey team moved to 2-2 Tuesday night after a 4-1 loss to the Plymouth State Panthers at the Wonderland of Ice. Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, Mass.) tallied the lone Pioneers' goal.

Stathopoulos got Sacred Heart (2-2) on the scoreboard 8:40 into the game, putting a Jennie Robinson (Hyde Park, N.Y.) pass into the net to make the score 1-0. Plymouth State (1-1) tied the game 1-1 at 12:17 of the first period. Shannon Hickey jumped on a loose puck and fired it on goal. The Panthers outshot the Pioneers 11-7 in the first period and kept that momentum rolling into the second period. Plymouth State took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play halfway through the second period to take a 2-1 lead, as Tasha Wyatt scored with 8:39 left in the period. The Panthers tacked on two more goals in the third as they outshot Sacred Heart 11-4 in the final period.

Plymouth State outshot Sacred Heart for the game 32-17. The Panthers were 1-for-5 on the power play while the Pioneers were 0-for-3 with five shots. Jennifer Wisniewski made 16 saves for Plymouth State as Amanda Fontaine (Northfield, Mass.) had 28 for Sacred Heart.

The Pioneers are back in action on Friday, Nov. 8 with a 7 p.m. game against Holy Cross.
