Women's Hockey Defeats St. Michael's in Shootout
WORCESTER, Mass – After four clutch saves by senior goalie Mandy Montgomery (Grand Ledge, MI), junior forward Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) knocked home the lone shoot-out goal to lift the Pioneers to a 2-1 win over St. Michael’s in the ECAC Open Consolation Game Sunday afternoon. SHU wins third place in the ECAC Open for the third consecutive season and closes its season with a record of 6-16-7.

WORCESTER, Mass - The Holy Cross Crusaders scored two second period goals on their way to a 2-0 win over Sacred Heart Saturday night in the ECAC Open semi-finals. The Pioneers fall to 6-15-6 on the season.

Women's Hockey Ties Franklin Pierce 1-1 on Senior Day
BRIDGEPORT, Conn – On a day where the Sacred Heart women’s hockey team honored its nine departing seniors, it was junior Alex Davis (Pembroke, MA) knocking one home to tie Franklin Pierce in the third period and salvage a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice. The Pioneers finish the regular season 6-14-6.

HARTFORD, Conn - The Sacred Heart women's hockey team was outshot 41-16 and defeated 2-0 Tuesday night to the Trinity Bantams at Williams Rink in Hartford. The Pioneers fall to 5-13-5 on the season, while Trinity improves to 8-5-3.

WINCHENDON, Mass – After falling down 3-0 for the second consecutive game, the Pioneers pulled within one goal but couldn’t get any closer in falling to the Franklin Pierce Ravens 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. The pioneers fall to 5-12-5 on the season, while FPU improves to 17-2-1.

RINDGE, NH – After six combined goals in the first period, the Franklin Pierce Ravens scored the seventh and final goal of the game 4:36 into the third period to escape with a 4-3 win Friday night over the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Sacred Heart falls to 5-11-5 on the season, while FPU improves to 16-2.

Schutt Leads Pioneers Past Plymouth State, 2-1
South Burlington, VT – For the second consecutive game, senior goalie Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 31 saves, this time in a Sacred Heart 2-1 victory over Plymouth State Saturday afternoon in the final game of the St. Michael’s Doubletree Ice Hockey Classic. With the win, Sacred Heart snaps an eight game winless streak and improves to 4-7-4 on the season.

FAIRFIELD, Conn – Sacred Heart Head Women’s Hockey Coach Tom O’Malley has announced that Senior Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN) , senior Sara Hanna (Lino Lakes, MN), and junior Natasha Klinoff (Concord, MA) will serve as captains for the Pioneers this season. Ladner will wear the red C, while Hanna and Klinoff will serve as assistant captains.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – A goal from junior forward Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) broke up a 1-1 tie with just 2:21 left in the game to lift the Pioneer women’s hockey team to a victory over Rhode Island 2-1 Saturday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice. Sacred Heart is now 2-0 for the first time since 2006.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women’s ice hockey team opens up their 2013-14 schedule this weekend with a pair of home contests against the University of Rhode Island. The Pioneers, headed by Head Coach Tom O’Malley in his 11th year, are coming off an extremely successful 18-13-2 season in 2012-13. Sacred Heart finished third in the ECAC Tournament last season, defeating St. Michael’s 3-2 in the consolation game at the Wonderland of Ice.

Sacred Heart head hockey coaches C.J. Marottolo and Tom O'Malley have announced that the second annual SHU Hockey Association Golf Outing has been schedule for Friday, August 23rd. This year's event will once again be held at Great River Golf Club in Milford, CT.

Eight SHU Teams Earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards
The NCAA announced their Public Recognition Awards this week with eight Sacred Heart athletic programs being recognized for their academic achievements. The men’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams, men’s volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s ice hockey, women’s golf and women’s bowling were recognized for scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with respect to their Academic Progress Rates (APRs). Top-performing teams this year posted APR scores ranging from 978 to a perfect 1,000.
