Women's Hockey Wins Close One at Franklin Pierce, 3-2
WINCHENDON, MA – A day after falling 3-2 to Franklin Pierce on Friday night, the Sacred Heart women's hockey team returned the favor Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 victory of their own to close out the regular season. Sophomore Alex Davis (Pembroke, MA) netted the game winner as the Pioneers improve to 17-12-2 on the season.
Franklin Pierce started the scoring off at 7:16 of the first period, when leading scorer Karsyn Baker knocked in a power play goal to take the 1-0 lead. Baker was assisted by Haylea Barbieri. The Pioneers would even the score when sophomore Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) notched her 14th goal of the season shorthanded off an assist from sophomore Natasha Klinoff (Concord, MA). Sacred Heart would then go on to take the 2-1 lead with just 35 seconds left in the first period. Sophomore Meaghan Souza (Wilmington, MA) knocked in the power play goal for the Pioneers.
Franklin Pierce was able to tie the game back up on a power play goal from Colleen Doucette. Doucette was assisted by Baker and Barbieri at 2:53 of the second period. The game would stay tied for close to 11 minutes before Sophomore Alex Davis found the back of the net, off a quick feed from junior Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN) to clinch Sacred Heart's 17th win of the season.
The Pioneers play next weekend in the ECAC tournament starting Saturday the 23rd at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, CT. Admission to the tournament is free.
