(Worcester, MA) – Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON) and Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN) both scored third period goals and Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 33 saves to lead the Sacred Heart women's hockey team to its first win of the year, 3-2 over the Holy Cross Crusaders.
Hartman's third goal of the year proved to be the game-winner, coming on the power play set up by Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) at 7:57 of the third. That culminated a back-and-forth scoring affair, with the Crusaders tying the game 3:50 into the third on a goal by Stacey Hotchkins. The Pioneers went up 2-1 only 39 seconds into the third on Dunlop's first of the year, knocking in a rebound off a shot by Jaime Mey (Middletown, RI).
SHU tied the game 1-1 with the only goal of the second period, when Sara Hanna notched her first of the year on an assist from Hartman at 15:01. That answered a goal by Holy Cross' Christina D'Ambrogio with 54 seconds remaining in the first period.
Schutt made the lead stand up with ten saves in the final period, as the Pioneers beat the Crusaders in their home opener to avenge a 5-0 home loss at the hands of Holy Cross less than a week prior.
Sacred Heart looks for consecutive wins when they visit Nichols this Saturday, November 13 at 7:40 p.m.
