FAIRFIELD, CT - The seventh annual Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics Celebrity Breakfast will be head at 7:30 am on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at the William H. Pitt Health and Recreation Center on the Fairfield Campus of Sacred Heart University. Fay Vincent, the eighth Commissioner of Major League Baseball will be the Keynote speaker.
This fall marks the beginning of the University's sixth year as a full member of the NCAA's Division I. Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics has achieved success on and off the field, most recently represented by our women's teams finishing first, and our combined men and women's programs finishing second overall, in the 2003-2004 NEC Commissioner's Cup standings, emblematic of overall achievement and success for NEC member institutions.
To successfully compete and service the needs of student-athletes, innovative ways to raise funds to support the Department of Athletics continue to be developed. The Celebrity Breakfast will continue to be the primary and most visible fundraiser, run under the auspices The Pioneer Club, which is the new athletic development fundraising arm that benefits all Pioneer athletic programs.
The early morning of camaraderie, friendship and enlightening discussion is the one annual event in which all friends of various athletic teams participate. As Lou Carnesecca, Jim Calhoun, Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo, Bobby Valentine, Frank Deford and Kevin White did successfully the past six years, there is little doubt Fay Vincent will have a solid message, along with good humor and a well-balanced perspective on the current state of major league baseball.
"Tips" to our waiters, the coaches and athletes, who invited you, will help immeasurably. In recognition of the dedication and loyalty coaches have demonstrated in helping to elevate Pioneer Athletics to where it is today, a suggested minimum donation of $50 be made on your behalf to support our student-athletes and athletic programs.
The Women's Golf Program is in the midst of a $5,000 fundraising campaign. Friends who are able to contribute more can learn about our various levels of giving the morning of the breakfast or by contacting Coach Jamie P. Romeo directly at 203-365-4735 / via e-mail at romeoj@sacredheart.edu . Please confirm your attendance by Friday November 12.
