Tierney Rallies For SNEWGA Championship - Hartford Courant
Danbury's Tierney wins SNEWGA title
Sacred Heart senior women's golfer Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) contributed to the continued success of the Pioneer golf program this summer by posting a one-stroke victory at the the Southern New England Women's Golf Association Championship last week. Tierney fired a two-day score of 147 (+3) at the Rockledge Golf Club in West Hartford to claim the title by one stroke over Daria Cummings.
Tierney entered the second round holding a one-stroke lead over Cummings and shot a 75 to hold on for the victory. Cummings rallied from down two strokes with six holes remaining but Tierney had an answer. Playing the 17th tied, Cummings drained a 20-foot birdie putt only to see Tierney answer with a 15-footer of her own to keep the duo tied.
The 18th would prove to be the deciding hole as Cummings could only manage a bogey after her tee shot went right while Tierney tapped in for par and the championship.
Rockledge proved familiar ground for the SHU senior after leading the Pioneers to their first-ever collegiate tournament win their this past spring. Tierney finished second at the University of Hartford Invitational shooting a two-day score of 160 (79-81) to lead Sacred Heart to the come from behind victory at the event.
Tierney will be competeting at the Danbury Amateur Championship this weekend.
