HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. (October 20, 2008) - The Sacred Heart women's golf team sits eight strokes back of first place at the Fairleigh Dickinson Knight Invitational thanks to a first round 77 by freshman Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) who holds a one streak lead on the field. The Pioneers trail the host Knights who shot 318 on the first day of play at the Royce Brook Golf Course.

Bergin shot 41 on the front nine and a 36 on the back to hold a one stroke lead over Michele Holzwarth of FDU. Senior Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) sits tied for seventh after shooting an 80 on the par 72, 5,935 yard course.

Senior Joanne Martorana (Randolph, NJ) is tied for 10th after a round one 81 while fellow senior Jillian Nery (New Bedford, MA) is tied for 27th after an 88.

The final round of play will tee off on Tuesday morning.
