WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (October 5, 2008) - The Sacred Heart women's golf team took home a fifth place finish at the 2008 ECAC Championship after firing a school record low score of 631 at the two-day tournament. The Pioneers had a big round on Sunday, shooting a blistering 305 over the final 18-holes, slicing 21 strokes of their round one score.

SHU was led by freshman Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweeden) who climbed the leaderboard to a 12th place finish thanks to a final round 74 on the par 72, 6,095 yard course. Riber took eight strokes off her Saturday round to finished in a 12th place tie in a field of 88 golfers.

Senior Joanne Martorana (Randolph, NJ) also had a big Sunday, shooting a 76 to finish tied for 16th overall. Martorana shot an 81 on Saturday. Fellow senior Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) also improved on her first round score, shooting a 78 on Sunday to tie for 22nd. Freshman Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) pulled herself into that 22nd place tie thanks to a Sunday score of 77, five strokes better then Saturday's round.
