2008 NEC Championship Day 1 Results

DADE CITY, Fla. (April 25, 2008) - The Sacred Heart women's golf team is in second place just two strokes off the lead after round one of the Northeast Conference Championships in Dade City, Florida. The Pioneers shot a first day total of 326 to trail Fairleigh Dickinson atop the leaderboard.

The Pioneers got solid round from junior Joanne Martorana (Randolph, NJ) who is playing her best golf of the year. Martorana fired a 78 on Friday to put her tied for second overall in the 10 team, 48 player field.

SHU's Jillian Nery (New Bedford, MA) and Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) both found their way into the top-10 as well with an 81 and 82, respectively. Lauren Foster (Newington, CT) rounded out Sacred Heart's top-four with a 17th place finish on day one carding an 85.

Round two is slated for Saturday at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club with an 8:00 am tee time. The tournament will wrap-up on Sunday.
