ORLANDO, FL - Sophomore Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) shot a first-round 81, sitting in ninth place in the individual medalist race, to help the Sacred Heart women's golf team finish the first day of the Northeast Conference championships in second place in the ten-team field at the ChampionsGate Golf Club in Florida.
The Pioneer team total of 328 puts them ten shots behind Long Island University in first place. Fairleigh Dickinson is two shots behind the Pioneers in third, and Central is four back in fourth place. The rest of the field is rounded out by Robert Morris in fifth (334), Saint Francis (PA) in sixth (339), Monmouth in seventh (350), Mount St. Mary's trails MU by just one stroke for eighth (351) with St. Francis (NY) on MSM's heels in ninth (364) and Wagner (369) in tenth.
Freshman Taylor Coleman (Worcester, MA) and sophomore Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) finished tied for tenth with twin 82's for the Pioneers. Freshman Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) sits in 14th after an 83.
The 2010 NEC Women's Golf Championship will resume play tomorrow, at 7:00 a.m. The tournament's final round will be played Sunday, with the first tee time also set at 7:00 a.m.
