Hartford Invitational Final Results

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 15, 2008) - The Sacred Heart women's golf team accomplished a program first on Tuesday afternoon winning the University of Hartford Invitational, SHU first-ever team tournament title. The Pioneers shot a two-round score of 653 to take first place at the event held at the Rockledge Golf Course.

Sacred Heart came into the day two shots behind the University at Albany and fired a round two score of 325 to take the trophy. The Pioneers were led by junior Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) led the way finishing second at the event with a two-day score of 160 (79-81). Tierney led three Pioneers that finished in the top-10 in the win.

The big mover on day two was senior Patricia Heyes (Durobin, Ontario) who took 11 strokes off her day one score to shoot up from 18th to 3rd in the final standings. Heyes carded a 75 on Monday, the low round among the 33 golfers competiting. She finishe with a two-day score of 161 (86-75).

Junior Joanne Martorana (Randolph, NJ) tied for fourth overall shooting a 162. Martorana shot an 83 on day two. Fellow junior Jillian Nery (New Bedford, MA) finished 14th with a 170 (84-86) over the 36 holes.

The Pioneers will be at the Central Connecticut Spring Invitational this weekend in their final tune-up for the NEC Championships the last weekend in April.
