Hartford Invitational Round 1 Results

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 14, 2008) - Sacred Heart juniors Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) and Joanne Martorana (Randolph, NJ) shot matchin 79's to put the Pioneers one stroke off the team lead after day one of the University of Hartford Invitational. SHU shot a team score of 328, one stroke behind UAlbany for the lead at the six team event.

Tierney and Martorana are both tied for second place after their round one scores where just two strokes behind Long Island University's Natalie Desjardins on the leaderboard. Tierney fired a 38 on the back nine, one stroke off the low over holes 10 through 18 at the par 72, 5,803 yard Rockledge Golf Course.

Junior Jillian Nery (New Bedford, MA) had a nice first round as well, shooting an 84 to sit tied in 10th place overall. Senior Patricia Heyes (Durobin, Ontario) is tied for 18th overall with a day one score of 86 carded.

The tournament will round up play tomorrow with 18-holes starting with an 8:30 am shotgun start.
