Head Coach Matt McGreevy begins his ninth season at the helm of the Sacred Heart women’s golf program in 2013-14. McGreevy has built the Pioneer women into a Northeast Conference title contender in his short time with the program and takes over the reins of a men’s program that is annually one of the most competitive teams throughout the Northeast.
The 2008-09 season saw McGreevy lead the Pioneers to a third place finish at the Northeast Conference Championship, earning the rookie head coach the 2009 NEC Coach of the Year award. McGreevy had the Pioneers in contention again at the 2010 Championship, finishing 17 strokes off the lead for a fourth place finish.
The 2007-08 season saw McGreevy lead the Pioneers to a program-best second place finish at the Northeast Conference Championship. Since taking over the SHU women’s program, the Pioneers have seen five golfers earn All-Northeast Conference honors along with Carly Bergin being tabbed the 2009 NEC Rookie of the Year, a program first.
McGreevy, a graduate of Sacred Heart University, was a two-sport athlete for the Pioneers. A quarterback on the football team, he held the school record for touchdown passes in a game (4 vs. Curry 10/19/95). He was also a standout in between the pipes in lacrosse.
After graduation, McGreevy picked up the game of golf and became a teaching professional at Great River Golf Club, which is the home of Pioneer Golf. McGreevy who has been teaching for eight years, heads the instruction of the junior programs at Great River.
