DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart women's golf team closed the 2014 season on Sunday with a fourth-place finish at the Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championship, held at the LPGA International Champions Course.
The Pioneers had their best team round of the tournament on Sunday with a team score of 312, 24 strokes over par. Sacred Heart entered the day in sixth place, vaulting past Robert Morris and Central Connecticut State to finish the tournament in fourth place for the second consecutive year. The Pioneers' three-round score of +91 put them 12 strokes behind Fairleigh Dickinson for third place. LIU Brooklyn won the tournament at +34, followed by Saint Francis U at +60.
Freshman Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was Sacred Heart's top individual finisher in the tournament, tying for 10th place after carding an 81 on Sunday. She finished the tournament with a three-round score of 236, +20 over par. Stephanie Lowe (Cedar Park, Texas) had her second round of 77 on Sunday to finish the tournament tied for 13th with a 237, +21 over par. Lowe was even par on the back nine in the final round, posting birdies on two of the final three holes. Senior Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.) had the Pioneers low round on Sunday with a two-over 74. Clinton moved up 11 spots on the leaderboard in the final round, finishing in a tie for 16th place with a +23 239. Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass.) shot 80 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 23rd at +27.
