Women’s Golf Finishes Second at Lonnie Barton Invitational; Hayward Wins Individual Title

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Junior Kelsey Hayward held on to her first round lead Tuesday at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, but needed a playoff to win the individual title at the LPGA International Champions Course.

Hayward carded a second-round 78 on the par-72 course on Tuesday, as Fairleigh Dickinson's  Mariana Juaristi had a four-over 76 to tie and force a playoff that Hayward won. Freshman Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) had the Sacred Heart women's golf team's low round on Tuesday with a 77, finishing sixth in the individual event. Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.) finished tied for 17th with a two-round score of 166. Stephanie Lowe (Cedar Park, Texas) cut six strokes from her first round score on Tuesday, putting up an 81 for a two-round score of 168. She finished the tournament tied for 20th.

As a team, Sacred Heart tied with Saint Francis U for second with identical team scores of 640. Fairliegh Dickinson won the tournament with a score of 628.

The Pioneers are back in action on Monday, March 17 with the opening round of the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. hosted by William & Mary.
