FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's golf team has been chosen to finish seventh in the Northeast Conference this season, as the conference released its women's golf coaches' poll on Monday.
The Pioneers finished fourth at the 2013 NEC Championship, but return just one scorer from that team. Senior Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, N.Y.) finished tied for 25th at last year's championship and leads a group of three freshman and junior transfer Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass.) into the 2014 spring season. Clinton had two top-20 finishes this fall with freshman Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) posting a top-10 finish in the SHU Fall Classic.
LIU Brooklyn was picked as the unanimous favorite to earn a third consecutive NEC title, followed by Saint Francis U and Fairleigh Dickinson. Central Connecticut was picked fourth with Robert Morris and Wagner tied for fifth. St. Francis Brooklyn rounded out the coaches' poll in eighth.
Sacred Heart opens its spring season on March 10 with the first round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational.
