Fairfield, CT - Senior Danielle Vasely (Hopewell Junction, NY) has been named the Northeast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week of October 22-28. She is the first Pioneer to win a league award this year.

Vasely notched two goals this week, one of which helped Sacred Heart clinch a berth in the upcoming four-team NEC Tournament. She put SHU on the scoreboard with the eventual game-winner in the 58th minute of the Pioneers' 2-0 win over Robert Morris, which solidified their spot in the postseason. Vasely struck again in the Pioneers' regular season finale, a 3-1 win over New Hampshire. The senior forward broke a scoreless tie with the Wildcats in the 23rd minute.

The Pioneers will be the number three seed in the Northeast Conference tournament this weekend. SHU will face Rider in the semifinals Friday at 1:30 pm.
