Fairfield, CT - Head coach Chris Blais recently announced the hiring of Katie Kloeckener as an assistant coach for the Sacred Heart field hockey team. Klockener comes to Sacred Heart after a four year playing career at Ball State University where she graduated from in May.

At Ball State, Kloeckener was part of a team that was the Mid-American Conference runner-up in 2006 and she was recognized for her academic accomplishments. She was twice named to the MAC All-Academic and was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association four straight years from 2004-07.

In addition to her play on the field, Kloeckener has gained coaching experience from numerous camps throughout the country, including at the University of Maryland, the University of Indiana and the STX Field Hockey camps. In those camps she spent time teaching youngsters the proper fundamentals and techniques of the game.

While working towards her Bachelor's Degree in exercise science at Ball State, Kloeckener worked as a strength and conditioning intern at the Ohio University Weight Room during the winter of 2007. In that position she helped set-up and run strength and conditioning workouts for teams and athletes.

At SHU she will be responsible for assisting administrative and recruiting duties for the field hockey progran and coaching offense and goalkeeping on the field.
