Fairfield, CT - Head Coach Chris Blais has announced the 2009 Sacred Heart Field Hockey schedule. The Pioneers will take on some of the top teams from around the region as well as their traditional NEC rivals. SHU will play eight home games, including five on Campus Field.
Sacred Heart will open the 2009 campaign with a trip to North Carolina for a pair of games. The season starts on August 29th against Appalachian State followed by a date with Davidson the following day. SHU returns north the following weekend for two games at Yale University. The Pioneers take on the Lady Bulldogs on September 4th followed by a match with Northwestern.
After a date at cross-town rival Fairfield on September 11, the Pioneers will make their Campus Field debut against Bucknell on September 13. A four game stretch away from home starts with a meeting against Maine at Yale on September 17. A swing through New England features games at Boston University and Brown.
The Pioneers kick-off Northeast Conference play on October 4th when they host Rider at Campus Field. Visits to Quinnipiac and Monmouth follow the next weekend before the Pioneers host Hofstra and Bryant in two non-league games. A crucial trip to NEC powerhouse Lock Haven and Siena takes place October 23 and 25. The season closes at Campus Field with games against Saint Francis (PA) and Robert Morris on October 30 and November 1.
The Northeast Conference Tournament, featuring the top four teams in the standings, is set for November 6 and 7 at the highest seed.
