Final Stats

Loretto, PA - Senior Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) and junior Whitney Russo (Waterville, ME) each scored goals to lead the Sacred Heart field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Saint Francis (PA) in NEC action Sunday at DeGol Field. With the win the Pioneers cliched a berth in the Northeast Conference tournament for the eighth straight year.

The Pioneers controlled the play for most of the day, out-shooting the Red Flash 17-7. Russo got the scoring started with a penalty stroke at the 27:18 mark. Eye scored her league leading 19th goal of the year 10 minutes into the second half. Senior Melissa Mazin (Putnam Valley, NY) sent the ball in from the right side and Eye whacked it past Red Flash goaltender Erin Reifsteck for the score.

With one game remaining in the regular season, Sacred Heart is 4-2 in the NEC and currently tied for third in the standings with Quinnipac. The Pioneers and Bobcats will close out the season against each other on Thursday at Campus Field. Senior Day festivities will precede the game which is set for a 3:00 pm start.
