Final Stats

Fairfield, CT - Allison Vogel and Michaela Franny each scored goals and Tricia Crotty added a second half insurance goal to lead Rider over Sacred Heart, 3-1, in Northeast Conference field hockey action Sunday at Campus Field. The loss snapped a four game Sacred Heart winning streak.

Rider scored two goals in just over a minute early in the first half to take control of the game. Vogel got things started with a shot at the 11:10 mark. Just 1:10 later, Margaret Ecke found Franny off a penalty corner and she whacked a shot past Pioneer goaltender Whitney Mills (Harrisburg, PA) to put Rider up by two scores.

Junior Melissa Mazin (Putnam Valley, NY) got the Pioneers on the board and back in the game in the 46th minute. Following a scramble in front of the Rider goal, including a couple of scoring attempts by SHU, Mazin was finally able to stuff the ball past Broncos goaltender Jennifer LoCastro for her second goal of the year.

Rider answered Mazin's goal with a tally of their own with 17 minutes left in the game. The trio of Crotty, Diana Celebre and Erin McGinnis combined on a perfect up-field attack and Crotty finished the job with a shot that found the back of the cage, sealing the game for the Broncos.

The Pioneers are back on the field Friday when they host Robert Morris in their final NEC contest of the season. Game time at Campus Field is set for 4:00 pm.
