Fairfield, CT - Senior Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) scored three goals, and sophomore Stephanie Fazio (Norwalk, CT) added two goals and an assist as the Sacred Heart offense pounded home seven tallies en-route to a 7-2 victory over Bryant in field hockey action Friday at Campus Field. The goal output was the highest for the Pioneers this year.
Eye got things started early, scoring just three minutes into the game. The senior created a turnover and raced to the top of the circle where she wound up and ripped a shot that flew past Bulldog goaltender Kundayi Mawema into the back of the net.
Fazio tallied her two goals late in the first half. At the 24:10 mark she took a perfect centering pass from Eye and tipped home her first goal of the season. The second tally came three minutes into the second half when she tipped home a loose ball to make it 3-0. Fazio came back four minutes later and found Eye with a pass, creating Eye's second goal.
Bryant finally got on the board at the 46:21 mark when Elise Boissoneau ripped a shot from the top of the circle that found its way into the back of the cage. However, just two minutes later, senior Melissa Mazin (Putnam Valley, NY) converted a penalty stroke to make it 5-1.
Eye completed her hat trick at the 53:48 mark. The three goals marked the seventh hat trick of Eye's career and her 19th multi-goal game. Sophomore Kelsey Zeyher (Poughkeepsie, NY) scored SHU's last goal finishing a rebound after a shot by Mazin at the 58:51 mark. Colleen Wilson scored Bryant's second goal with eight minutes left.
In a game featuring a lot of offense, Bryant actually held a 20-16 advantage in shots. Whitney Mills (Harrisburg, PA) and Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT) combined to make 10 saves in goal for the Pioneers, fending off a heavy amount of pressure from the Bulldogs.
