Final Stats

Fairfield, CT - Elizabeth Gilroy and Maggie Marcum each scored two goals and Miami University outshot Sacred Heart 27-5 enroute to an 8-1 victory in field hockey action Saturday at Lakeside Field. Senior Amy Hendricks (Milford, PA) scored the Pioneers' only goal.

Atfer Courtney Fretz got the Red Hawks started five minutes into the game, Hendricks tied the game at the 12:21 mark with a shot from the top of the circle. Jessica Reading and Christine Brightwell scored goals two minutes apart to make it 4-1. Brightwell's marker came on a penalty stroke.

Gilroy and Marcum combined for four straight goals spanning the two halves to blow the game open early in the second half. Brittany Branco finished the scoring with 12 minutes remaining when she put in an endline pass from Kate Snyder.

Senior Whitney Mills (Harrisburg, PA) tried to keep her team in the game, making eight saves before being replaced by freshman Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT) late in the second half.

The Pioneers are back in action Sunday when they take on Northwestern. Game time at Lakeside Field is set for 1:00 pm EDT.
