Erika Vargas begins for her sixth season as an assistant coach with the Pioneer field hockey program. She assists in all aspects of the program specializing in goalkeeping and defensive strategy. Vargas brings a wealth of coaching experience to the SHU field hockey team having served as the head goalkeeping coach and regional goalkeeping consultant for the National Futures Development Field Hockey Program. She has also assisted at various field hockey camps throughout the region including the Merestead Sports Camps, the William and Mary Field Hockey Camp, the Tidewater Camp, the WISC Field Hockey Camp, and the 2003 High School Open National Developmental Camp. This past summer, Vargas served with Team USA Field Hockey as a part of the New Jersey/Pennsylvania regional staff, along with being on the High School Open and Futures Development Invitational Camp. A 2000 graduate of the College of William and Mary, Vargas earned a bachelor's of arts degree in kinesiology, and also excelled on the field hockey field, earning All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team honors in 1999.
