SHU Field Hockey Falls to Monmouth, 4-1

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team suffered its second MAAC loss of the season, as the Pioneers fell to Monmouth on the road, 4-1, Sunday afternoon. Makenna Crawford scored SHU's lone goal in the contest.

The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when SHU plays host to MAAC-foe LIU Brooklyn at 7 p.m.

The Scoring

  • (25:58): Crawford broke the scoreless tie after scoring an unassisted goal on a loose ball in the circle

  • (29:48): Ireen Franken took a shot at net, but Elyssa Okken redirected it into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1

  • (61:38): Off the corner, Kelly Hanna sent a pass to Bachop Garden, who scored to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead

  • (63:51): Annick van Lange corralled a rebound in front of the net and fired it home to give Monmouth a 3-1 lead

  • (65:18): Kelly Hanna scored off a rebound to secure the 4-1 Monmouth win

  • Crawford's goal was her fourth of the season, tying her with Allie Brouhard and Kelsy Hopkins for second-most on the team

  • Crawford's four goals this season is a new career-high, surpassing last season's total of three goals
