Pioneers Beaten by #11 UAlbany, 9-0

ALBANY, NY (September 27, 2013) - The Sacred Heart field hockey team fell at the hands of the #11 nationally ranked Albany Great Danes Friday afternoon, 9-0, on the road.  The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-5 on the season.

The Great Danes remained perfect on the season, raising their record to 9-0.  The Pioneers were outshot 32-2 in the loss, registering a shot in each half.  Albany's Daphne Voormolen scored five goals to lead the Great Danes, scoring four in the second half of Friday's action.

Albany's Molly Mariano opened the scoring late in the first half, knocking in a rebound in the 25th minute.  The Great Danes tacked on two more before the halftime horn with Voormolen tacking on her first.  Four of the nine Albany goals came on penalty corners.

SHU sophomore goalkeeper Mary Altepeter (Chesterfield, MO) came up with 12 saves in taking the loss.

The Pioneers are back in action on Sunday afternoon with a stop in Philadelphia to face the Temple Owls.
