(Loudonville, NY) – Christine Mace (Norwalk, CT) scored twice, helping lead the Sacred Heart Field Hockey team to a 5-1 win over Siena on the road in the final game of the season Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers dictated the game throughout, yet found themselves tied at halftime. Mace opened the scoring 3:54 into the game, with Karly Duven (Freehold, NJ) sending the pass over to her for the assist. Michaela Sullivan, however, tied the game for the Saints with 18 seconds left in the first half.
However, the Pioneers exploded for three second-half goals. Sarah Bergman (Blandon, PA) beat goalie Beth Myers for an unassisted goal at 47:15 to put SHU up for good. Mace scored her second of the afternoon, racing down the field and scoring an unassisted goal from the edge of the circle at 52:45. Kate Boyd (Nottingham, NH) added another at 57:54, taking a pass from Rachel Claroni (Hershey, PA) for a wide-open shot. Lindsay Kasten (Fair Haven, NJ) scored her fifth of the season with an unassisted goal in front at 59:31.
Kasten and Liz Bergman (Blandon, PA) tied for the team lead in goals, while Liz Bergman led the team with 12 points on the season.
Sacred Heart outshot Siena 28-8, including 17 shots on goal to the Saints' four.
