(Fairfield, CT) – The Sacred Heart Field Hockey team beat Siena 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Campus Field in the final regular season home game of the year. The Pioneers improved to 3-3 in NEC play and remain in contention for a playoff berth with one regular season game to go.
Lindsay Kasten (Fair Haven, NJ) opened the scoring with a one-timer at the front of the net on a smooth feed from Sarah Bergman (Blandon, PA) at 8:27. Kate Boyd (Nottingham, NH) made it 2-0 SHU at 24:30, taking a pass from the right by Nikki Kimborowicz (Biddeford, ME) and drilling a shot from the top of the circle. Less than four minutes later, Jen O'Malley (Boston, MA) set up amongst a couple of defenders and poked a pass from Bergman through traffic at the goal mouth to give SHU a 3-0 halftime lead. Karly Duven (Freehold, NJ) added the final goal at 54:39, one timing a cross to the weak side by Bergman, who finished the day with three assists.
Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT) made four saves to earn the shutout on Senior Day at Campus Field.
The Pioneers end their regular season next Friday afternoon at Quinnipiac with a chance to play their way into the NEC Tournament.
