FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart women's fencing coach Dr. Tom Vrabel announced the signing of Amanda Green to a National Letter of Intent for the 2008-2009 season. Amanda is a 5'6" epeeist from Flemington, NJ and Hunterdon Central HS. Amanda was a 2006-2007 season New Jersey Interscholastic Fencing Association All-State first team selection and was the recipient of the NJIFA Women's Epee Sportsmanship Award last season.

"We are very excited about Amanda joining the epee squad next season," commented Dr. Vrabel. "We have made an effort to recruit more fencers from New Jersey, as it is probably has the strongest high school fencing in the country. We look for Amanda to make an immediate impact on the team, just like another top New Jersey fencer Krista Bacci has made for our saber squad."

Green, who is a USFA "C" ranked epeeist and fences for Medeo Fencing Club, has both regional and national competitive experience. Amanda was the winner of the New Jersey USFA Division Cup in 2007 and has qualified for the 2007 US Junior Olympic Championships.

"Our epee squad has become a strong part of our team, amassing a 54-27 record so far this season," said Vrabel. "With the breakout years that junior Mary Dannegger (18-6) and sophomore squad captain Catie Sagevick (14-11) are having, I see the addition of Amanda as being an important step towards the goal of having multiple all-league selections from our epee squad in the very near future."
