NEW YORK, NY - Senior Lea Ferland swept all three of her matches in foil against both schools, but the Pioneers were outmanned by NYU and Vassar, losing 17-7 against NYU and 16-11 to Vassar. The Pioneers only fielded two fencers in epee and foil, losing six points automatically.
Sacred Heart won three points in sabre against NYU, two of them by sophomore Liz Mordecai. The other match was won by freshman Elise Valerio.
The Pioneers won the sabre even against Vassar, 5-4,with Mordecai and junior Christie Zeleznik each winning twice.
Sophomore Mackenzie Gray teamed up with Ferland against Vassar to sweep all six of their matches. Only the lack of a third fencer cost the Pioneers three points in the even. MacKenzie also won a point for SHU by winning one her three foil matches against NYU.
