FAIRFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart University women's fencing team lost four decisions in its own invitational Sunday afternoon, but junior Lea Ferland finished the day-long competition undefeated in matches against the University of Massachusetts, Drew University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.

SHU lost close 15-12 decisions to Drew and UMass, and lost 16-11 to Fairleigh Dickinson. The Pioneers also lost 3-1 on epee competition against Queens College.

In addition to Ferland's impressive performance, rookie fencer Liz Mordecai was 7-2 on the afternoon. She was 3-0 against UMass and 2-1 against both FDU and Drew. Senior Meghan Humphrey was also a perfect 3-0 against UMass and 7-2 on the day.

Freshman Mackenzie Gray also had a good day for the Pioneers, finishing 4-2 againt FDU and Drew and 2-1 against Massachusetts.
