NEW HAVEN, CT - The Pioneer women's fencing team dropped a 19-8 decision to a strong Yale team on Saturday. Saber led Sacred Heart with a 4-5 record, including two wins by freshman Elena Tringa.

In a 7-2 loss the foil squad was led by Freshman Jayme Smith who also posted two victories. Single wins were achieved in epee by Senior Squad Captain Ali Roach and Freshman Colleen Mason.

"Jayme Smith had her best performance of the year and was in every on of her bouts on Saturday," says head coach Dr. Thomas Vrabel. "She improves with each outing, and as her confidence grows so does her performance. She is peaking nicely for the NCAA regionals next month.

"Elena Tringa also had a nice day," he continued. "We will need both fencers to perform at a high level if we are to have a strong finish to the conference season"

The Pioneers are next in action against Columbia and NYU at Columbia on Feb 3rd.
