PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The Sacred Heart women's fencing team went 2-4 in the first Northeast Fencing Conference competition of the year at Brown University on Saturday.
The Pioneers earned the first NFC win of the season with a 26-1 win over UNH after opening the meet with a 16-11 loss to host Brown and 15-12 loss to Brandeis. SHU then dropped a pair to Wellesley and MIT 19-8. The second win of the meet came in the seventh and final round against Boston College 15-12.
In the epee event, junior Samantha Abbott led the way with a 17-1 record for SHU. freshman Ashley Cherry put together a 13-5 record in her first NFC meet. Junior Hasoni Austin led the Pioneers in the sabre event posting a 10-6 record.
The Pioneers travel to Vassar College for the annual Tradition Multi-Meet on Sunday, December 3rd.
