  • Jayme Smith and CJ McCarter are Named to All-Pioneer Team at Senior and Scholar Athlete Awards Gala

    Senior team captain Jayme Smith and freshman standout CJ McCarter were named to the All-Pioneer Team at the 2013 Senior and Scholar Athlete Awards Gala on Sunday evening. In addition to this honor, Smith was inducted into the C. Donald Cook Scholar Athlete Society along with Colleen Mason.

    Sacred Heart women’s fencing team captain Jayme Smith’s 32-2 record in foil competition this past season has earned her the honor of being named the Northeast Fencing Conference’s Women’s Fencer of the Year. She is also one of four Sacred Heart women’s fencers to garner All-League accolades.
  • SHU Fencing To Compete At NCAA Northeast Regional Sunday

  • Natalie Rossetti Reaches Final Round of Epee at NCAA Northeast Regional

    The Sacred Heart women’s fencing traveled to St. John’s University in New York City for the NCAA Northeast Regional Fencing Championships on Sunday. Junior epeeist Natalie Rossetti advanced to the 12-woman final round and placed 11th.
  • Jayme Smith Leads Pioneers to 6-0 Day in Northeast Fencing Conference Action

    The Sacred Heart women’s fencing team traveled to Boston to complete their Northeast Fencing Conference action for the season on Saturday. The Pioneers dominated the action, going 6-0 with wins over Dartmouth (26-1), Tufts (18-9), UMASS (22-5), Boston College (18-9) Vassar (22-5) and Smith (26-1).
  • Epee Squad Places Fifth at National Squad Championships

    The third annual National Collegiate Squad Championships were held on Sunday at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The SHU epee squad (squad captain Colleen Mason, Megan Floyd and Natalie Rossetti) placed fifth.

    The Sacred Heart women’s fencing team traveled to Vassar College on Saturday to fence Drew, Yale and Queens College. The Pioneers had a perfect day, besting Drew 24-3, Yale 15-12, and Queens 25-2.

  • Julia Greene Signs NLI With Sacred Heart Fencing

    Sacred Heart University Head Fencing Coach Dr. Thomas Vrabel has announced the signing of Julia Greene to a National Letter of Intent to fence saber for the Pioneers next season. Greene is from Tewksbury, NJ, where she is the saber squad captain on the Vorhees High School fencing team, which is coached by Amy Lawless.
  • Pioneers Defeat UNC and NYU Tradition Tournament

    (Poughkeepsie, NY) - The Sacred Heart Women’s Fencing Team posted impressive 14-13 victories at Vassar College on Saturday at the annual Tradition Tournament. The Pioneers were 2-5 on the day, losing to perennial national powers Harvard (19-8), Princeton (25-2), Penn State (21-6), University of Pennsylvania (18-9), and Temple (25-2). The Pioneers were led on the day by Sophomore epee star Megan Floyd and Senior foilist and team captain Jayme Smith. Floyd was 10-8 on the day, including impressive wins over 2011 NCAA Champion Margherita Guzzi of Penn State, and All Americans Amrit Bhinder of UPenn, and Nadia Eldeib of Harvard. Smith was 7-7 on the day, including three wins against UNC and two against NYU.

    The Sacred Heart University Womens’ Fencing Team got off to a rocky start in Northeast Fencing Conference action with a 3-3 record on Saturday. They defeated Wellesley College 25-2, Boston University 21-6, and the University of New Hampshire 24-3 but dropped three heartbreaking matches to Brown (14-13), MIT (14-13) and Brandeis (15-12).
  • Women's Fencing Goes 5-2 at SHU Invitational

    The Pitt Center was taken over by twenty fencing strips on Sunday as the Pioneers hosted the 2012 SHU Invitational. Sacred Heart went 5-2 on the day, defeating Haverford 19-8, FDU 19-8, Yeshiva 25-2, Vassar 23-6 and CCNY 23-6 while falling to Cornell 19-8 and Stevens Tech 15-12.
