STONY BROOK, NY - The Sacred Heart Equestrian team earned Reserve High Point College honors today by posting a score of 33 points to finish behind host Stony Brook's total of 36. For the Pioneers, this marks the second week that the team finished in second place. Strong finishes throughout the day led to the team's success.

In the morning Open Division, it was the duo of juniors Kate Janczak and Emily Grayson that put the team on the board. Janczak earned herself a 5th on the flat and came back to finish 3rd over fences. For Grayson, it was a 4th place finish on the flat that earned her a ribbon.

The Intermediate division continues to be dominated by team newcomers. On the flat, Ashley Coppola and Crystal Taylor came back after the break to finish with a pair of 2nd place finishes in their respective sections. Over fences, Lauren Pierce continued her hold on the Intermediate Fences division, finishing with her second 1st in as many outings.

Freshmen Jessica Reynolds and Sara Spagna brought home ribbons for the Pioneers in the Novice Division. For Reynolds, today was her most successful intercollegiate competition to date, finishing with an admirable first and second placing. Reynolds and team captain Janczak were the only SHU riders to place in both of their classes at today's competition. Spagna, competing in her first intercollegiate competition, found her success over fences where she finished 5th.

In Walk/Trot, Senior Lauren O'Connell improved on her season opening performance to win her class. For her efforts, the team was able to clinch the Reserve High Point College title for the second week of the season.

The Equestrian Team will return to Smoke Run Farm next week to compete in the annual Molloy College Intercollegiate Horse Show.
