FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart University women's bowling coach Becky Kregling announced today that Nicole Caggiano of Woodbridge High School in New Jersey has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Pioneers starting in 2007-08.
"We are extremely excited that Nicole has chosen Sacred Heart," said Kregling. "Her remarkable talent and experience will help her have an instant impact on the lanes for us. Even more impressive, is her accomplishments and activities outside the sport. Her leadership abilities and enthusiasm will be a great asset to our program."
Caggiano has an impressive bowling resume that includes being named All-State each of the last two seasons, and All-Middlesex County three straight years. She was the Middlesex County and Central New Jersey Bowler of the Year in 2006 and 2007. She had the highest average on her team that won the New Jersey State Championship twice. She rolled the highest series in New Jersey State Tournament history, a 737, helping Woodbridge to its second straight title in 2006. On the national scene, Caggiano was a National Teen Masters Finalist in 2006 and 2007, and National Junior Gold Finalist.
In addition to her bowling accomplishments, Caggiano also pitched and played left field for the Woodbridge High softball team.
Her resume of the lanes and playing field is equally impressive, serving as vice-president for the senior class this season and also being named 2007-08 Homecoming Queen. She is the vice-president for R.E.B.E.L., an anti-drug committee at the high school. In her spare time, she volunteers at the Hartwyck Adult Day Care Center in Edison.
"When I first visited Sacred Heart, I felt very comfortable and knew it would be hard to top," Caggiano said. "It felt like home. I chose Sacred Heart because of its excellent academic reputation and its very competitive bowling program. When the opportunity came to sign early I knew it felt right. I look forward to competing on the national level with the women's bowling team."
