Wallingford, CT-  The Pioneers went 2-1 on day one of the first ever Northeast Conference Women’s Bowling Championship.  SHU notched wins over #7 Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Peters College.  Freshman D’Anna Farmer (Brick, NJ) came off the bench in the second two matches for the Pioneers and shot 244 and 226.

At each NEC meet every team will have one match against every opponent.  One match consists of a traditional five person team game and four baker games.  The Pioneers opened the meet against FDU, the 2006 National Champions, and trailed by 7 pins after the team game.  The Pioneers battled back in the baker portion of the match and freshman anchor Savannah Zientara (Lewiston, NY) sealed the win by punching out in the tenth frame of the final game.  SHU posted a 779 baker set in their surge past the Knights for the win.

In the second match of the day Sacred Heart steamrolled over Saint Peters College 1929-1490.  SHU used a 1063 traditional game and an 866 baker set to move to 2-0 for the tournament.  The final match of day one pitted the Pioneers against Kutztown University.  Kutztown found their groove and put the match away early after an impressive 1173 team game.  Kutztown is the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament at 3-0.
