Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart women's bowling team has been ranked ninth in the nation in this seasons first poll conducted by the National Tenpin Coaches Association. At the end of the year the top eight teams are selected to participate in the national championship. This year's NCAA Championship will be held in North Brunswick, NJ. The Pioneers will look to return to the big dance for the fifth time in seven years.
The Pioneers have three of their top bowlers returning for the 2009-10 season including Sarah Pelletier (Lewiston, ME), Savannah Zientara (Lewiston, NY), and Nicole Caggiano (Woodbridge, NJ). Sacred Heart had a disappointing end to last year's campaign falling early in the NEC tournament after claiming the #2 seed.
Nebraska earned the top spot in the preseason poll earning 18 first place votes. Other ranked Northeast Conference members include Fairleigh Dickinson (3), New Jersey City (8), Kutztown (10), Adlephi (13), and St Francis (NY) (18).
