MILLSBORO, DE - The Sacred Heart women's bowling team went 5-1 Saturday afternoon at the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, including big wins over the last two NCAA national champions UMES and Vanderbilt.

The Pioneers started the day with a 946-883 win against UMES with freshman Nicole Caggiano leading the team with 244. Match two was also a win, 922-639 over Howard University with Sarah Pelletier anchoring the team with a 206.

Adelphi University took advantage of SHU's low team game of the day to earn a victory, 918-883, in the third match. Freshman Savannah Zientara shot 215 and senior Jamie Manzo contributed with 201.

The Pioneers followed up the loss with back-to-back 957 games over Bowie State University's 765 and 763 by North Carolina Central. Pellitier continued to be hot with 236 and 217 games.

The day ended with an exciting 1030-1029 win over Vanderbilt. Sophomore Katy Edsall's 245, 243 by Pelletier and 201 by Zientara helped the Pioneers to the high game of the day and the one-pin win over the 2007 National Champions.

Pelletier led the team with a six-game total of 1251 followed by Zientara's 1162. Individual all-tournament team awards will be announced tomorrow.

This brings their tournament record to 10-2 and overall season record to 18-13. The SHU bowlers are sixth in overall tournament total pinfall standings.

Tomorrow's competition starts at 8:30 with 6 4-game baker total pinfall matches against Elizabeth City State University, Delaware State University, Hampton University, Long Island University, St. Peter's College and current tournament runner-up Kutztown University.
