Wallingford, CT- The Sacred Heart women’s bowling team finished the first NEC meet in history with a record of 4-2. The Pioneers posted an identical 2-1 record both days of the tournament. In Sunday’s action Sacred Heart notched wins over Adelphi and LIU after falling to St. Francis (NY) in the first match. Savannah Zientara (Lewistown, NY) led SHU with games of 198, 217, and 248 as well as anchoring the Pioneers in each baker match.

Despite the poor game Sacred Heart still carried in a three pin lead to the baker portion of the match. The Terriers got hot and averaged 205 in the baker games and the Pioneers stumbled in the fourth game shooting 165. In the end the Terriers pulled the upset winning 1778-1756.

After having the bye in match six the Pioneers concluded the meet against first year program Long Island University. The Blackbirds showed their youth all tournament and the Pioneers took an easy win 1759-1005. Zientara’s 248 in the match was the high for the Pioneers in any game of the two day event.

After the first meet the Northeast Conference championship is still up for grabs as the Pioneers (4-2) trail Kutztown (5-1) and Fairleigh Dickinson (5-1) by only one game. The women’s bowling team will return to action next weekend as they travel to Millsboro, DE to compete in the UMES Hawk Classic.
