Smyrna, TN - The Pioneer women's bowling team completed day one of the Music City Classic with a 5-1 match play record and are in fourth place in total pinfall. Sophomore Nicole Caggiano (Woodbridge, NJ) paced SHU with a 192 average, shooting a high game of 227. Savannah Zientara (Lewiston, NY) posted the highest score of the afternoon for a Pioneer with a 252 in the fifth match.
Sacred Heart opened the tournament with a 927-805 rout of Minnesota State, Caggiano's 223 was the high game of the match. The Pioneers struggled in their second game of the day but escaped with a 829-727 victory over Northeast Conference rival Adelphi. Sarah Pelletier (Lewiston, ME) was high on the pair with a 191. SHU dropped its third match of the afternoon to the #5 team in the nation Arkansas State, currently one spot in front of the Pioneers in third place overall.
Led by a 213 from Pelletier the Pioneers would rebound in their next match edging out an eight pin victory over Delaware State. Sacred Heart rolled through its next match with a 967-853 triumph over Morgan State. The Pioneers rounded out day one of the tournament with a tight 927-912 win over Valparaiso. Caggiano and Pelletier each shot over 200 in the final match to guide SHU to the victory.
The Pioneers return to action the next two days as they complete competition at the Music City Classic.
