The Sacred Heart women's bowling team, currently ranked 17th in the nation, completed a 5-2 weekend at the latest Northeast Conference meet. Jackie Carbonetto (Blauvelt, NY) led the team with a 213 average while Sarah Pelletier (Lewiston, ME) led the Pioneers in baker frame average at 21.6. Sacred Heart now holds a 40-26 record this season, including a 27-6 mark in its last three events.
The Pioneers finished competition on day one with a 3-1 record. Carbonetto started the day with a 231 in the team game as SHU defeated Adelphi 1303-1288. The Pioneers posted back to back wins with a rout of St. Francis (NY), 1407-1195. SHU dropped the third game of the day by just 17 pins to St. Peter's, Pelletier shot 216 in the loss. Carbonetto shot a clean 255 as the Pioneers closed day one with a 1429-1373 victory over Kutztown.
Sacred Heart picked up right where they left off to start day two in a 1266-1002 defeat of Long Island. The Pioneers would then suffer their last defeat of the weekend, again by 17 pins, as NJCU earned a 1397-1380 win. To close out the meet SHU would edge out a 1370-1359 win over defending NEC Champion Fairleigh Dickinson. The Pioneers now sit at 7-7 heading into the Northeast Conference Championship weekend set for March 20-21.
Head Coach Becky Kregling commented on her team's solid performance, "I am proud of how the girls bowled and how much hard work and energy they are giving after an extremely rough, unanticipated start of the season."
