FAIRFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart women's bowling team clinched its first North East Women's Bowling Conference (NEWBC) title since 2002 with a 4-1 record at the final conference meet of the season, held at the AMF Lanes in Hamden, CT.
In the first match of the day, the Pioneers defeated New Jersey City University, 952-918, led by a 202 by Alice Kessler. SHU followed that up by downing Fairleigh Dickinson 886-821. Marissa Gagliardi led the way with a 202, followed by a 200 from Sarah Pelletier.
Pelletier rolled a 235 as the Pioneers struggled but still defeated St. Francis-NY 833-801. SHU continued to find the mark in match four, this time losing to St. Peter's, 910-852.
Senior Amanda Lulu fired an 858 in the final match of the day, as the Pioneers rolled over Adelphoa, 858-761.
Pelletier led the team with 961 for 5 games (192.2 average) which was third high for the day out of the 42 student athletes behind Vicki Spratford of NJCU with 1061 and Alex Stein of SFC with 1042.
Pelletier led the NEWBC in average this season with a 207.17 for 18 matches and head-to-head points with 17 out of the 18 matches in which she competed. Lulu rounded out the top ten in average with 192.00 for 19 matches. Jamie Manzo, the NEWCBC 2005-06 rookie of the year, was sixth in points with 11 out of 18.
The announcement of all-conference MVP, rookie and all-conference will be announced at a later date.
