STRATFORD, NJ - The Sacred Heart University bowling team competed in the sectional qualifier for the Intercollegiate Team Championships this weekend. SHU finished the tournament in first place and broke the highest team score at Sectionals in program history with 64 in the baker game total.
The team averaged 199.6 in baker to earn a spot in the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska April 18-21. All eight bowlers on the sectionals roster contributed to help the team not only qualify in the top 4 to advance but to win the eastern sectional. The Pioneers were in first by over 300 pins going into the last of four blocks of 16 baker games. They had the lowest scoring day and lost the lead after shooting 144 in game 63. The team fought back to finish with a 233 and take home the 1st place trophy.
This was the highest the team has scored at sectionals in program history.
Individually, senior Amanda Nardiello led the team once again in most stats categories. She averaged 22.13 per frame, 93% filled frames, 100% single pin spares (33 of 33) and an amazing 65% strikes. The strikes included 128 strikes out of 198 attempts including 11 strikes in a row on Sunday afternoon. Tori Boughton and Sarah Morris averaged over 19.0 per frame for the weekend.
SHU flies to a big tournament in Smyrna, TN hosted by Vanderbilt March 16-18 to end the regular season. The following weekend is NEC Championships in Howell, NJ. SHU are the #1 Seed for NEC Championships.
