MINEOLA, N.Y. (March 3, 2014)—Going 4-4 at the final Northeast Conference meet of the season, the Sacred Heart bowling team moves into fourth place in the conference clinching a spot in the 2014 NEC Championship.
"It was a good way to start the biggest month of the season," said head coach Becky Kregling.
The Pioneers went 1-4 on Saturday, collecting their only win over St. Francis Brooklyn 973-833. Senior Nicole Trudell (Coventry, R.I.) led the squad with a 220 game.
After a rough opening day, the team pulled together to have their best day of the season on Sunday winning all three matches. Jayna Tartaglia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) led the Pioneers shooting 214 as they took down Adelphi 880-837.
Sophomore Nicole Higgins (Old Bridge, N.J.) and freshman Amanda Tyrrell (Selden, N.Y.) led the day's second match against Saint Francis U both tossing 212 games. Sacred Heart got their third win of the meet topping the Red Flash 1015-973.
In their narrowest victory margin of the meet, the Pioneers closed out the weekend with a 934-917 win over St. Francis Brooklyn with Tyrrell leading the way tossing a 213.
This weekend, Sacred Heart heads to Nashville for the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt, which has the largest field in the 11-year history of NCAA Division I women's bowling with 30 teams competing under one roof. Nineteen of the top 20 teams in the country will be competeing.
