Pioneers Finish Third at ECAC Championship
MINEOLA, N.Y. (February 22, 2014)—The Sacred Heart bowling team went 4-1 at the ECAC Championship hosted by Adelphi in Mineola, N.Y. Saturday. The Pioneers tallied 4,449 total pin fall for a third place finish. Senior Nicole Trudell (Coventry, N.Y.), the only Pioneer to bowl all five games, led the team with 891 pins.
Amanda Tyrrell (Seldon, N.Y.) threw SHU's first 200 game of the day. The freshman shot 204 as Sacred Heart picked up their first win of the day over Howard 939-796.
The Pioneers were handed their only loss from eventual tournament champion and No. 3 team in the country Fairleigh Dickinson. Abby Rossi (Great Barrington, Mass.) shot the match's high game of 195 as Sacred Heart lost 999-860.
Senior Chevi Panzanella (Brewster, N.Y.) threw Sacred Heart's best game of the day in match three, shooting 228 in the Pioneers' 914-829 rout of host-school Adelphi.
Every pin mattered in the fourth match, as SHU defeated fellow Northeast Conference member LIU Brooklyn by just 10 points. Trudell's came up big, leading the Pioneers to the 895-885 victory by shooting 213.
Sacred Heart dominated New Jersey City in the final match of the day. Kate Wilson (Dighton, Mass.) shot the match's high-game of 189 to lead the Pioneers to the 841-655 victory.
