Fairfield, Conn.--The defending Northeast Conference Champion Sacred Heart Women's Bowling Team was voted No. 7 in the country by the National Tenpin Coaches Association in the inaugural preseason poll. University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the 2012 NCAA Champions, got 14 first place votes, landing the Hawks the top spot.
"We are looking forward to the upcoming season," said Head Coach Becky Kregling. "We have a strong returning class and a large talented group of new players who are eager to learn and have an impact on our program."
The Pioneers return two All-Americans in anchors Jackie Carbonetto (Blauvelt, N.Y.) and Nicole Trudell (Coventry, R.I.). Both players competed in this summer's Junior Gold Tournament. Unfortunately, they got paired against each other in the first round of double-elimination match play. Carbonetto went on to come in second and be elected to the 2013 Team USA.
Sacred Heart added eight to the squad this year. The women's bowling class of 2016 is Head Coach Becky Kregling's largest in her 20 season history at SHU.
