FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 24, 2008) - Sacred Heart University head women's basketball coach Ed Swanson announced that Kiley Evans (Cazenovia, NY / Cazenovia H.S.) and Amie Toner (Willimantic, CT / Windham H.S.) have signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period will join the Pioneers in the fall of 2009.
"These are two players that will make an immediate impact for us," stated Swanson. "Both fit exactly what we look for in a women's basketball player at Sacred Heart University. Both Kiley and Amie are tremendous competitors both on the court and in the classroom."
Evans is a 5'9"combo guard from Cazenovia High School where last season she was named the OHSL Liberty League Player of the Year. A second team All-Central New York and third team All-New York State player, Evans 18.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists as a junior. She was named to All-OHSL Liberty League while leading her team to their first-ever Liberty League and overall Class B sectional titles. She was named her team's MVP and earned the Tournament MVP award at the Fabius Pompey and Zebra Classic events last season. Evans was also an All-OHSL League player as a sophomore and freshman. A multi-talented athlete, Evans also is an all-league cross country runner and has played lacrosse and golf at her high school as well. In the classroom, she is a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award and named in Who's Who Among High School Students.
Toner is a 5'10" guard/forward out of Windham High School where she was an honorable mention all-state and an all-league and player last season. Toner earned Team MVP honors during a junior season where she averaged 15.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. As a sophomore she led her team to the ECC League Championships and the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. She averaged 13 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in earning all-league, Team MVP and honorable mention all-state honors. Off the court, Toner is a high honors student-athlete.
